Bakir and Rabia | Muslim Wedding | Highland Park Community House | Highland Park, IL
Day one of Bakir and Rabia's wedding celebration began at the Muslim Education Center in Morton Grove, IL. Their wedding ceremony was filled with prayers, love and embraces. It truly was a sight to remember. Some powerful words of wisdom were spoken by their qazi (officiant).
I'm so grateful to have been able to document this wedding with Luis Malagon films.

Friends and family gathered at Kabul House Restaurant in Evanston, IL to celebrate Bakir and Rabia's nuptials and to enjoy some delicious Afghan cuisine. The wedding guests were all draped in rich and colorful tones of fabrics. Red and yellow are commonly worn to ward off evil and bring happiness and good luck.
The celebrations didn't end here. Rabia's Mehndi Ceremony was held at her family home, where all of the women gathered for music, dance, and traditional Indian and Pakistani dishes. I loved how all of the women and children, including the bride, changed into their colorfully elaborate saris. There was beauty in every inch of the room and they celebrated way into the night.
HIGHLAND PARK COMMUNITY HOUSE
After a full day of wedding events, Bakir and Rabia threw a lavish reception the following day at Highland Park Community House. The bride wore a custom white wedding gown and veil adorned with layers of lace, tulle and beaded pearls all designed by her cousin. Let me tell you, wrapping a hijab is an art in itself and I was truly amazed at all of the different layers that went into dressing the bride.
